On the SLATE

First let me wish everyone a Happy New Year and best wishes for a prosperous, productive, and healthy 2010.

May 2010, will mark the 8th anniversary of SLATE. We have come a long way since the first couple meetings when 8 institutions met - and thought it "might" be a good idea to get a group together. Who knew. So 6+/- major Bb releases and numerous upgrades later, here we are. It is because of your participation, dedication, and responsiveness - and of your institutions - that we have come so far.

Since there is no meeting scheduled for January, I wanted to give you some idea of what is planned for the year ahead. Our next meeting is at the City Colleges of Chicago. Our first visit there which is very exciting. Details on that meeting will be coming next week. A quick thanks to all who offered to host meetings this year - including a number of "first-timers" which is really great. Other dates to note:
  • February 10 - meeting hosted by the City Colleges of Chicago
  • March 15-17 - Midwest EDUCAUSE
  • March 17 - meeting hosted by Lewis University
  • March 20-24 - Wimba Connect 2010
  • April 21 - meeting hosted by Governors State University
  • May 12 - meeting hosted by Northern Illinois University
  • June 11-13 - 2nd Annual Quality Matters' Conference
  • June - 16 - meeting hosted by Loyola University Chicago
  • July 14-18 - BbWorld
  • July 21 - meeting hosted by Dominican University
  • August 18 - meeting hosted by Northwestern University
  • September 24 - SLATE Summit hosted by Goshen College
  • October 21/22 - 2010 SLATE Conference
  • November 17 - meeting hosted by Elmhurst College
  • December 15 - meeting hosted by Roosevelt University
If there are other conferences or events that you think would be of interest to the group, please pass them along to me and I will get them posted on our web site. We are still looking for topics for most of our meetings, so if there is something of particular interest to you or your institutions let me know and we will see what can be setup. This doesn't mean you will have to "do anything" if you make a suggestions - unless you want to.

This is also a good time to review and update (or create) your SLATE profile. This information is widely used by our members and has become a great resource for making connections and creating collaborative opportunities.

If you have any questions or comments please feel free to forward them to me. I look forward to a great year and seeing everyone soon. Thanks.

Ken
