March 2014 SLATE Meeting Reminder

Main Agenda Item

Use of Social Media in the Classroom

Social media isn’t exactly new, but its educational uses are still evolving. Many educators are able to use Twitter, Facebook, and blogs with their students, but others find they have limited access to these and other social networking sites.
Most would argue that social media, when used responsibly and appropriately by educators and students, has many uses in the classroom. Educators are using social media as a powerful tool for student learning, professional development, and to create and maintain personal learning networks (PLNs).

What do you think?  How are you using social media in your classroom (traditional or online)?  What are the greatest challenges that you face?  What works well?  Come share your experiences with the group as we develop some best practice guidelines.
